Ethical Trading
We are committed to being a responsible trading partner with our suppliers and we ensure that our books are produced in a manner that respects international and local laws. In addition to undergoing social and quantitative audits, we also require all our book suppliers to undergo audits to ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) standards on a regular basis. These are conducted by an independent and globally-recognized third party audit company.
Product Safety
Parragon Books are committed to ensuring our products are produced to the highest possible safety standards. Our team of product technologists are continually working with our publishing teams, our suppliers and internationally recognized third party laboratories to ensure our books are safe for the intended consumer, with clear labelling and advice. Our risk assessment and test programmes are continually being reviewed to ensure we are up to date with the latest legislation and expert advice. We work closely with other International publishers to develop and support best practice throughout the industry as a whole.
Paper Sourcing
We are committed to smart, responsible publishing. Our books are printed on paper made exclusively from pulp obtained from a sustainable forest source. Our paper does not come from pulp sourced from illegal logging activities. We require all our suppliers to confirm that the pulp they use comes from sustainable sources. Where appropriate, we use recycled paper or FSC approved paper.
We are committed to being a responsible publisher and this includes using only paper where the pulp is obtained from a sustainable forest source.
Environmental Policy
We ensure that every aspect of our business is conducted in accordance with sound environmental practices. We achieve this by:
- Minimizing the consumption of natural resources and energy, while consuming material goods in moderation
- Reducing waste by adopting improved operating practices and by recycling materials whenever practical
- Ensuring all waste is disposed of in a safe and responsible manner
- Supporting and monitoring the development of new products and processes that improve performance and decrease environmental impact
- Complying with environmental legislation
Parragon aims to promote among its staff, suppliers, customers and shareholders an understanding of local and worldwide environmental issues in the context of its business. Our collective task is to continually decrease the environmental impact of our total global activities.
Carbon Neutral
We work with The CarbonNeutral Company to calculate our carbon footprint. This information has given us an understanding of the CO2 emissions involved in publishing our books and enabled us to identify where we can make the biggest steps in reducing our carbon footprint. Where we can’t reduce emissions through internal measures, we are using carbon offset. This gets us to a net zero CO2 figure. We review our carbon neutral goals on an ongoing basis. Our UK, US, and European activities are carbon neutral and Parragon is on track to be carbon neutral worldwide by the end of 2011.
